چکیده

Social Thought & Research, Vol. 30 After decades of seeing emotions as irrational and unimportant, scholars in social movements are beginning to value the role of emotions in social movements. This paper contributes to the burgeoning literature on emotions and contentious politics by proposing a synthesized tri-variate framework called the “emotional tripod.” The emotional tripod consists of three mutually constitutive “legs” that explain the origins of emotions (emotional habitus), the process of intensifying and transforming emotions (emotional effervescence) and the quality of the emotions generated (affective/reactive emotions). This paper empiricizes the framework by looking at the visual materials produced by PETA. Lastly, this paper briefly critiques the efficacy of emotions in generating collective action.

Dynamic Matrix - Variate Graphical Models – A Synopsis 1 – Carlos

Bayesian dynamic linear models (DLMs) (West and Harrison, 1997) are used for analysis and prediction of time series of increasing dimension and complexity in many applied fields. The time-varying regression structure, or state-space structure, and the sequential nature of DLM analysis flexibly allows for the creation and routine use of interpretable models of increasingly realistic complexity. ...

Modulations of mirroring activity by desire for social connection and relevance of movement.

Mirroring neurons fire both when an individual moves and observes another move in kind. This simulation of others' movements is thought to effortlessly and ubiquitously support empathetic connection and social understanding. However, at times this could be maladaptive. How could a boxer mirror a losing opponent's expressions of fatigue, feeling his weariness, precisely when strength is required...
